Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) Postgraduate Scholarships

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) was established in 1974. It delivers injury prevention initiatives and no-fault personal injury cover for everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand. ACC funds postgraduate research scholarships to deliver evidence that helps address complex challenges and informs longer-term investment decisions in injury prevention and sustained recovery, specifically in the context of injury compensation. 

 

Eligibility:

Applications will be accepted from candidates:

  • who are enrolled in, or eligible to enrol in, a full time or part time Master’s degree in an Aotearoa New Zealand university, or an NZQA accredited tertiary institution.
  • whose research component commenced in the second half of 2026 or will commence in 2027.
  • whose proposed course of study includes a minimum thesis component of 90 Credits.
  • whose research thesis focuses on one or more of ACC’s research priorities: 
    • What supports injured people return to lasting work and independence, including biopsychosocial factors, case management, rehabilitation services, service providers, employers. 
    • What helps groups that face barriers to access, support, and equitable outcomes get the assistance they need to recover from injuries – see ACC’s Access Report
    • Ways to reduce the incidence of injury in high-risk groups or settings, including workplace, road, sport and those that may be at risk of sexual violence – see ACC’s Injuries in New Zealand report 
      • Across all priorities, there is a focus on initiatives that provide value-for-money.
         

Value and Number awarded:

Four scholarship will be offered each year.

The current annual value of the funds available for the scholarship is NZ$15,000 (fulltime), NZ$7,500 (part-time).

No scholarships will be awarded if the selection panel is of the opinion that there is no candidate who is of sufficient merit.
