Student mobility and credit transfer
04 October 2024 | publications
A June 2021 paper by Universities NZ examines student mobility and credit transfer patterns across New Zealand's tertiary education sector.
Key findings include:
- Bachelor's degree programs have the highest proportion of students changing qualifications (34%)
- Domestic students change qualifications at twice the rate of international students
- Māori and Pacific students tend to move between providers more frequently
- Younger students (under 20) are more likely to change qualifications
- About 35% of domestic bachelor's degree students complete their qualification with a credit deficit of around 120 credits, likely filled by previous study
- Approximately 26% of completing students draw credits from previous study at the same university, 6% from different universities, and 2% from other tertiary sub-sectors
