New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA): Universities New Zealand has responsibility for programme approval and accreditation functions across the university sector. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) manages this function for the remainder of the tertiary sector and works with Universities New Zealand to establish a minimum entrance standard for admission to universities.

Joint Consultative Group (JCG): Universities NZ, Academic Quality Agency for New Zealand Universities (AQA) and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) established the Joint Consultative Group (JCG) as a forum for regular discussion and consultation on matters of mutual interest and shared responsibility. The JCG meet approximately four times each year.

Universities NZ is represented on a number of working and advisory groups, including other sector bodies such as TEC and Ako Aotearoa.

CUAP has established the LEAD Professions Group (Law, Engineering, Accounting and Medicine) to develop closer relationships with professional bodies and to ensure decisions made by the registration bodies and CUAP are harmonised and of maximum benefit to both parties. CUAP is also represented on a number of profession-led working and advisory groups.

New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations (NZUSA): Both CUAP and the AQA board include a student representative, nominated by the New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations (NZUSA).
International
- Universities New Zealand is a signatory to the Groningen Declaration, an international initiative that aims to enhance student mobility and provide credential integrity and security for digital student academic data. Consistent with the intention of the Declaration, New Zealand universities are in the process of rolling out My eQuals, a secure online credential verification service.
- Universities NZ and AQA are full members of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), a world-wide association of over 200 organisations that are active in the theory and practice of quality assurance in higher education.
- Universities NZ and AQA are also full members of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN), which aims to enhance the quality of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region through strengthening the work of quality assurance agencies and extending cooperation between them.
