The Vice-Chancellors and Te Kāhui Amokura, Māori Deputy Vice-Chancellors of New Zealand's eight universities collectively express our sorrow at the passing and loss of Professor Piri Sciascia.
Our condolences to his immediate family, and to Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāi Tahu.
Professor Sciascia was a member of Te Kāhui Amokura for 12 years in his role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori of Victoria University of Wellington, and throughout his time he contributed immensely to the advancement of Māori scholarship and Mātauranga Māori within the academy. We are saddened by his passing but forever thankful for his contribution and the legacy he has left.
