Director Education (Fixed term 3 years)

Universities New Zealand – Te Pōkai Tara advocates for university education and research activities by promoting the common interests of the New Zealand universities through coordinated action across the sector. It is a statutory body with responsibilities for the quality assurance of university academic programmes, university entrance and scholarships.

This newly established role works with UNZ’s Chief Executive, the Vice-Chancellors, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors Academic, the university sector quality managers, and relevant government agencies to ensure there is coherent policy, strategy, coordination, and alignment across anything to do with sector quality and assurance.

You will have substantial experience in policy and practice associated with quality assurance and improving outcomes for learners. Your experience will have been gained in New Zealand over a long period at either the level of a large complex organisation (like a university) or at a sector level.

You will be a strong systems thinker, with excellent skills in analysis and creative problem solving.  You will be effective presenting ideas in person and on paper and will be known for your ability to generate successful outcomes in an environment where few of those you advise or support actually report to you. You will have the political nous and stakeholder engagement skills to be a trusted advisor and collaborator.

This role is initially being recruited on a fixed-term basis for three years as UNZ is not yet clear on what the ongoing needs and requirements may be for leading these functions. There is some requirement for travel – mainly domestic.
