Christmas / New Year
UNZ wishes all readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Our office is closed on Friday 22 December and reopens on Monday 8 January 2018.
Farewells and welcomes
Two Chancellors are stepping down this month. Universities New Zealand acknowledges the contribution of John Ward, who has been the Chancellor of the University of Otago for 8 years, and Sir Neville Jordan KNZM CNZM, who has been Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington for three years. Next year we will welcome the incoming Chancellors: Dr Royden Somerville QC (University of Otago) and Neil Paviour-Smith (Victoria University of Wellington) at the biannual joint meeting of Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors.
Celebrating 10 years
The New Zealand Universities Women in Leadership Programme has developed an infographic to celebrate 10 years of achievements. NZUWiL supports, encourages, and contributes to the development of women who are, or aspire to be, leaders within the tertiary sector. More information about NZUWiL can be found on the Universities New Zealand website.
Fees-free – who’s eligible?
The Government's fees-free website, including information about eligibility, is at FeesFree.govt.nz. Universities New Zealand is continuing to work through the finer details with TEC and looks forward to contributing to the planning for the second year of fees-free.
Copyright Act review
In June 2017, MBIE launched a review of the twenty-three-year-old Copyright Act. The Terms of Reference, Cabinet paper and newsletters are available on MBIE's website. An issues paper is currently being prepared and is intended to be released in the second quarter of 2018. Universities New Zealand’s Copyright Expert Working Group is following progress closely and has been actively engaged on behalf of the university sector.
